Thursday, September 16, 2010 – Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and his Chief Education Officer, Lori Shorr, made a three-hour visit to Congreso Partners Schools – Harcum College at Congreso, Pan American Academy Charter School and El Centro de Estudiantes – during Education Week 2010. They were interested in learning more about Congreso’s model for increasing educational attainment and re-engaging out-of-school youth. They were impressed with the level of support services that we provide to our educational programs and how we provide a real and alternative solution for high school and college graduation. The Mayor is interested in becoming an ambassador for this model with hopes of replicating it throughout the city. Most importantly, it was noted, this model is accessible because students can obtain up to $10,000 in federal grants to apply to their tuition.
